“Everyone dreams by night but the dreamers of the day are dangerous for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
The reality is many of us are just wishing to accomplish our dreams and goals. Most research studies state there is only about 10% of people who actually pursue their dreams. We’ve all heard the cliché statement that many of us was told as kids “Follow your dreams”. But as adults we all know this is better said than done because life interjects, bills happens, self-doubt creeps in and sometimes we have to work two or three jobs just to make “ends meet”. However we have to remember we only have one life to live so why not break away from the status quo and follow whatever’s in our heart. Here are five reasons why we should follow our dreams!
- Inspiration to Others:
Once we decide to go after our dreams we’re automatically a inspiration to others who have considered or contemplated going after theirs. If you decide to go and follow your dreams, you will give hope to others who want to do the same. You can serve as their example and their reason why they should give it a try. You can help them, coach them, and encourage them to keep going.
- You’ll Live a Regret Free Life:
Many of us know people who have many regrets about their life and wish they could of did things differently. If we follow our dreams we won’t have those regrets later on in life.
- Prove The Naysayers Wrong:
We all know when we’re following our dreams there will always be naysayers. People telling us we won’t make it for whatever reason. Maybe because they never accomplish their own dreams or anything different from the ordinary. Proven these people wrong can be an added bonus to going after our dreams.
- The Greatness is Already inside You:
Going after our dreams can bring out the greatness that is already inside of us and is just begging to come out. We can achieve anything we want in our life, all those dreams will come true if we simply believe that we have special abilities present within us.
- We Only Live Once:
We’ve all heard the statement “Life is short” but it really is so we have to ask ourselves are willing to die knowing we never went after our dream?
Final Thoughts
Having a commitment to pursuing our dreams is healthy, not only for us, but for those around us. Going after our dreams can open up opportunities that we might never have thought of in a million years. What are some of your dreams? What steps are you taking towards making them a reality? One thing I do is frequently check in with my mini goals so that i know exactly what I need to be doing to make my ultimate goal happen. It works for me. & I definitely am motivated by the threat of regret in the future!

I’m reading, writing, and researching extensively every single day. Starting up one business will be the inception of many other successful ones. I understand the reality, difficulties and learning it takes to make the impossible happen.

Great post and I love the quote at the beginning!
Personally I’m still trying to work things out, but I think my dream is to travel for a living and to also become a published author. It’s taken me a while to get to the point where I no longer let the expectations of society or of my family and friends, stop me from pursuing my dreams. It is such a relief to just be happy in stepping away from that status quo and just doing me. 😊

I understand completely when you step away from the status quo. It seems like a lot of people have different opinions on what we should be doing. But if we just follow your heart and hard work anything is possible!

#5 set me on the path to follow my dreams of traveling more. Losing my sister to cancer at 49 opened my eyes. It kind of sucks but it happens like that for most people. Life really is short and l no longer take it for granted.

Loving your post! Nothing but great things are happening since I’ve decided to go and live the life I’ve always wanted to live. I travel more, meet more wonderful people, and have come across more exciting opportunities. Everything isn’t always perfect but like you said, there are no regrets.

This was a great reminder. I’m a dreamer to my core, but I have a habit of sitting on my dreams as well.

God is surely trying to tell me something. I heard a message earlier this morning from Steve Harvey regarding living in your purpose. Both his message and this post resonated with me.

All of these are reasons I stay up and work to pursue my plans and visions.
I feel like when I call them dreams, it is easier to forget to strive for their materialization than when I say vision or goals.
Thank you for the reminder!

These tips are so timely! I’ve been having this song called Dream On in my head all week and I know it’s a reminder for me to keep dreaming no matter what.
