Living For The Moment V.S Future

Living in the moment can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time depending on if we are what I like to call “planners or whatever’s”. Planners are people who plan out every aspect of their lives and sometimes over analyze certain situations, because they want everything to go as planned. On the other hand, whatever’s just go with the flow not really worrying about the future just focusing on each day that’s ahead of them. Both can be problematic if you are too much of either one that’s why it’s always great to have a balance between the two.

Living in The Moment

When it comes to living life in the moment it can be viewed as an excellent time in our lives, because we’re enjoying the present. This can be amazing, because as many of us know we can get bogged down by focusing too much on the future. Therefore, losing appreciation for the present stage we’re in instead of enjoying life as it is today. Often times when we are living in the present our life can be more enjoyable and electrifying. Living in the moment can also give us experiences that we might not have if we thought it through rather than just going with the flow.

Living for the Future

Focusing on our future can be a significant factor that contributes to our life’s trajectory towards success. Without having a plan some would say “your life will be in shambles” or “without a plan how can you have a future”. In many cases this is true without having a plan or goal we can become  stagnant or what I like to call “lost in the sauce”. This happens when we’re just living life in the moment without any plans.

Planning V.S Living for the Day

It can be tricky when comparing planning and living for the present, because both are important to living a successful and fruitful life. On one hand having a plan is contingent on what we want to accomplish. When it comes to dreams and aspirations it is imperative that we have a detailed plan to help us get from one stage to another. However, being overly focused on the future can prevent us from truly appreciating our present.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of whether we are focused on our future or not. In the end our future is always around us  i.e. what will we do for money, where will we live, what career path are we on. I would love to hear your thoughts are you planner or do you just live life in the moment? Comment below &if you liked this post please share!

I’m a planner, I like to know what’s going to happen when. Over the past few years, i’ve realized that it’s not worth all the stress and anxiety when something doesn’t go the way I want, so I’ve learned to go with the flow on most things. But I still keep my planning tendencies when it comes to my career, so I focus all my planning energy on that. It’s an awkward balance I will admit, but it works for me!

There’s a difference in planning for the future and worrying about it. I believe one should always have a plan and should also be open to adapting it because of changing circumstances. I’m talking about serious issues like saving for retirement or kids’ educations.
Spontaneity is important for the times when you can just cut loose and do what sounds like fun. Living in the moment is what creates the memories we cherish. Planning makes them possible.

For me, each situation is different. Sometimes, I like a plan and then, there are times when the unknown is welcome. I always start my day with prayer, thanking God for His blessings, and asking Him to guide my path throughout the day. 🙂

I am an obsessive planner, although I’m learning g to go with the flow. It is challenging especially in terms of career planning. I’ve discovered that I can plan for many aspects of my career but not every minute detail!

I like to consider myself someone who plans ahead. I also like to just get up and go sometimes.

So not sure where I actually sit in regards to things. I do know that I don’t live in the past though.

This post really strikes a chord with me. I’m usually quite balanced between planning my goals and yet being open to opportunities, but just lately I’ve lost my direction. I don’t really have many long-term plans at the moment because right now I just don’t know what I want! Sometimes the mundane daily tasks can consume all of our attention and meanwhile life marches on.

  12. I do a bit of both. Planning comes naturally to me in some situations but in other situations, I do live in the moment. And, when I get a good balance all is well.

I’m currently in between. I have always tried to plan my entire life, and I’m only 22. Now, being a mother, I am at a crossroads. I still need to work towards my future but I’ve found I have never just lived for the moment.

You know what? I will post a response to this question. 🙂

    Hi Jay
This is a very interesting post.
Firstly in my opinion we should take a little time to plan what we would like to achieve each day rather than go with the flow.
Secondly what we do today will have an effect on our future.
Short term should be action and results and long term should be objectives to achieve
We our talking about our lives here and we all need to get the best results.

Hi Jay, I really liked what you said about balancing being a planner and a person who goes with the flow. I love it! I feel that I balance both quite well and I’m glad that you mentioned it. Moreover, your thoughts remind me of a conversation I had with someone and I mentioned that, “I’m not scared for my future. I’m scared for what is happening now.” Anyways, I enjoyed reading your post.

  20. Great piece. I have struggled in the past with needing to plan everything. As I’ve grown and matured as a person, I have learned there can be a happy balance.

  22. There is no way we will stop dreaming our dreams, so I feel that living in the moment with presence, keeps taking care of the future. It is actually very amazing yet arduous at times.
