When you’re a college student you’re busy most of the time or maybe just lazy but finding time to cook in college may be challenging. Most students don’t have a lot of money to spend on food, but we all know you still have to eat. With the right recipes and some kitchen savvy, you can eat great even on a budget. So I will share five easy meals even a college student can afford.
- Scrambled Eggs with Cheddar Cheese: While the costs of many ingredients are skyrocketing, eggs are still relatively cheap.
- Grilled Cheese Sandwich: The classic college staple, grilled cheese sandwiches pack a lot of flavor for very little cost.
- Meatloaf: All you need is ground beef combined with ketchup, onions, and more makes a great meal. It also can be used for leftovers
- Caesar salad: Combine romaine lettuce, cheese, croutons, and dressing for a classic salad.
- Quesadillas – Quesadillas are the perfect quick meal. This spicy vegetarian mix of black beans, corn, onion, and cheese is a great choice for a busy college student.

Ramin Noodles and (frozen) Mix Veggies (mixed together when cooking) is the poor students Chinese Dinner. AND it’s great with butter if you have some!

I swear by the “College Cooking” series of cookbooks! I didn’t start cooking in earnest until I was in my mid-twenties, but this series includes recipes that are delicious, require only a few ingredients, and have instructions that are easy to follow for inexperienced cooks! (They also have an entire section on budget meals!)

I used to make a bagel with tomato and cheese melted in the toaster oven. Or the same thing in a pita and toasted.

Yummy! Please don’t forget my easy peasey Macaroni and cheese! Just cook the macaroni as per normal in a pot. Once cooked, add some butter, grate your favourite cheese, sprinkle cinammon, salt and black pepper and stir! 🙂

I love making chilli, just mince beef, can of chopped tomatoes and spices ! , if I want to cut the cost even more I replace the minced beef with a can of mixed beans 🙂
